The Swarmandal is another famous Indian instrument bearing a strong resemblance to the santoor. This instrument has a wooden box with 36 strings arranged in a parallel fashion similar to the santoor. At the end of each string are beads which can be adjusted up and down to tune the strings to the appropriate pitch.
