Theconcept of the bow drill is simple. A stringed-bow is used to rotatethe drillwhile it rests on the notched fireboard. The pressure and frictioncreated bythe quickly moving drill produces heat. A glowing char will be producedaftercontinous drilling, collecting in the notch in the fireboard ready toignitethe tinder. When enough of the wood powder or "char" falls upon thetinder, it will begin to smoke. At this point, ease the smoking charinto thebundle of dried tinder and gently blow until the thick smoke burstsinto a flame....easyas that!
