Parallel Action Pliers: are the right choice when you need to hold an object still while applying pressure on it. Non parallel action pliers will let an object slop forward when pressure is applied. Non parallel action pliers will hold the object firmly even when the job calls for firm pressure.
My favorite general-purpose pliers are parallel-jaw pliers. They excel at crimping and grasping near the tips since they apply uniform pressure across the whole face.
