Humidity Indicator Cards( HIC)

HIC or Humidity Indicator Cards are widely used to measure humidity level inside a packaged environment HIC is a card on which a moisture sensitive chemical is impregnated such that it will change colour when the indicated relative humidity is exceeded. It is an inexpensive and easy to use way to ascertain humidity levels inside sealed packing.Working of Humidity Indicator Cards HIC are impregnated with a chemical solution which changes colour with humidity. These cards are not precision indicators. However, they are good at telling the maximum possible humidity in a container. For example, if all of the dots are deep blue on a 6 spot card which is a 10-60% card, then it means that the humidity in that container is below 10%.This is helpful especially in case of products which are to be protected from rust s basic corrosion occurs only when the humidity levels exceed 40%. The indication of Humidity also helps us prevent the products from mildew and fungus. Types The most common HIC change colour from blue (less than indicated RH level) to pink (greater than indicated RH level). They are available in many configurations and used in many applications like metals, health and diagnostic equipments, military equipments, machinery parts , tools , fixtures and practically any product which can be affected due to moisture and humidity . 6 Spot HIC: These are the most common HIC and have spots from 10-60% Humidity 4 Spot HIC: These are used for preservation and packing use for specific environments and have spots from 10%-40% 3 Spot HIC: These have been produced to adhere to semi conductor packing norms and have spots in the range 5%-15% While 6 spot cards are readily available, 4 spot and 3 spots are produced against order. Humidity Cards and Desiccant PouchesHIC are used only to indicate humidity levels and do not eliminate moisture.For moisture removal, Dew Pouch Desiccant bags are used along with HIC. PackingHumiChek Cards are packed in laminate pouches in sets of 3 /5 or 10.The laminate pouches are further packed in poly lined cartons. Precautions HIC are sensitive to environmental humidity so it is suggested to keep them Packed and in a cool and dry place. Open the laminate foil only when the cards are to be placed in their respective locations.
