The POE adapter gives "carrier class" performance in a low cost system.This is a passive device which means it will power the 48V at any point of time it is being in operation w/o checking for PoE compatible devices on the end of the cable . Typically in 100MB networks the maximum allowable CAT5 cable run is about 100 meters. This is not a limitation of the POE equipment but rather a limitation of the Ethernet standards. It functions with any equipment that accepts passive PoE. Power is supplied on RJ-45 connector pins 4/5 (V+) and 7/8 (GND).
