Cons: Like any mobile CB, its a bit larger than a remote or handheld CB and will also necessitate a bit of installation time. Keep in mind that CB radios operate at a fairly low frequency (27 MHz) and consequently need a larger antenna outside the vehicle to provide reasonably good range, just like your cars AM/FM radio (0.5 to 108 MHz).
Pros: This unit is one of the few mobile CB radios with Single Side Band (SSB) capability. This increases range by using only a portion of the normal channel bandwidth. This effectively triples your strength from 4 to 12 watts. There is an upper sideband (USB) and lower sideband (LSB) for each of the 40 regular AM channels. These sidebands are less congested, too. Its like two radios in one: regular CB when looking for a random speed trap tip from a stranger, then SSB when you want to have a quieter, less distracting conversation with your other buddies in your convoy. If youre torn between CB and FRS/GMRS, this could be the compromise. Many other performance-enhancing features like a built-in SWR meter (to maximize the match up between CB and antenna) and a built-in microphone booster called Dynamike. RF gain allows adjusting receiver sensitivity. Includes microphone, mounting bracket, direct wire power cord and microphone hanger (antenna not included).
