Crewel Embroidery is done by hand, and only skilled karigar can do this embroidery, we use two types of wool, single ply and double ply. We use different types of fabric for crewel embroidery like
cotton duck, cotton Dosooti, velvet, organza, cotton organdy, cotton sheeting, jute, linen.
1. 2 Ply (Double Ply)
This is fine quality 2 fold wool twisted yarn, with little sheen on it. As it is very fine , it takes about 60% more stitches to cover same amount of work as the other quality. It also gives room
for more colors to be used to create shade effect. Overall it gives sharp optical image to embroidery. This work is usually done on duck fabric. For the same pattern the price of this quality is
about 55% more than 1 ply.
2. Crewel fabric (Single Ply)
This is traditional crewel embroidery with relatively thicker wool. Here the edges are not very sharp but gives excellent rustic image. This embroidery is usually done on handloom Dosooti
fabric.
3. Cotton Bed Sets
