Afghan Rugs
Not to be confused with the knitted afghans, these Turkish carpets originate in Afghanistan. Some are made by immigrants of Turkmenistan and others, found in the markets, come straight from Afghanistan. Those Turkish carpets made by the Turkmen are generally of the double-knot style, and those from the Afghanis are of the single-knot style. All are 100% wool.
Bahtiyari Rugs
This type of Turkish carpet is in a category of its own. It is one of the most unusual pieces available, primarily because three weaving techniques are combined to produce one Turkish carpet. Various combinations of flatweave, embroidery, and double-knot make up each piece. Bahtiyaris are either made up of wool on wool or wool on cotton. This style originated in Turkey, but is now difficult to find in its original state due to recent imitations being produced. The color is a telltale sign of an imitation product, since Bahtiyari colors are quite distinct and have a character of their own. These pieces were also once used as a form of camel saddles, as is evident by the location of particular techniques.

Buhara Rugs
This Turkish carpet type was introduced to Turkey by immigrants from Turkmenistan. A common motif found on these carpets is that of the evil eye, which serves as protection against any evil or harm.
Dosemealti Rugs
This type of Turkish carpet originates from the Taurus Mountain region. Due to the cold weather climate here, the Dosemealti Turkish carpets are made with warm, thick piles. The ram horns are a common symbol found within a Dosemealti design, signifying power and strength. Red and blue colors are associated with these pieces.
Hereke Rugs
The Hereke carpet is similar to the Kayseri carpet, with variations of the floral design or medallion motifs. The difference between the two is in the size of the knots, the Hereke knots being smaller than the Kayseri knots. These pieces originate from the Marmara Coast region.
Kayseri Rugs
The Kayseri carpets come from the central Anatolia region. The designs are generally medallion motifs or what is known as the 1,001 nights floral design. The Kayseris available at our online shop are made up of wool on cotton.
Kurdish Nomadic Rugs
The Kurdish Nomadic carpets originate from the eastern part of Turkey. Since these were nomadic people, they lived in tent habitats and needed a durable and well-made carpet to withstand the hardships of their lifestyle. The Kurdish nomads immigrated mostly from other countries before settliing in eastern Turkey, and thus a different style can be observed from other Turkish carpets. They are made from 100% pure wool.
Usak Rugs
The Usak originates from the southern part of Turkey. This type utilizes many earth tones and is one of the most light-colored carpets available. The Usak is also recognized for its thick piles.
Yahyali Rugs
The Yahyali is one of the most well-known carpets in Turkey. Apart from the appealing color harmony with dark blues and reds, the Yahyali was among one of the first carpet markets in Turkey. This piece is originally from Central Anatolia.
