Made using high quality wild silk and traditional hand knotted skills, our 100% tussah silk rugs and carpets have a high thread count, are smooth, durable and available in a range of beautiful
designs and colours.
Silk carpets are traditionally made from wild silk, a coarser fibre than cultivated silk. It grows in the wild without cultivation; as the silkworms diet is any leaf available the colours of the
natural silk vary from off-white to almost yellow. These high-end pure silk carpets are known as soft gold and take many hours to produce. The complex processes are chemical free and involve cocoon
processing, reeling off raw silk from cocoons, dying, design and weaving.
Weaving a silk carpet is painstaking and time-consuming work; it can take one worker 14-20 months to complete a 5x8 carpet of 300 lines, while a 1.4x2 silk carpet of 800 lines takes between
40-50months.
The material of a silk carpet measuring 1.3x2 feet made of 1000 lines is as fine as hair and requires such concentration that the young girl who weaves it will never weave another. As these skills
become scarce, the precious handcrafted silk carpets are treasured by leading museums and collectors worldwide.
