Indjija is a town located in eastern Srem at the edges of the hills of Furska Gora. The first time it was mentioned in documents was back in 1455. as a feudal domain. In the charter of despot Jovan
Brankovic in 1496, it was mentioned as a settlement for the first time. The old medevial Indjija, which citiyens were living in dogouts was placed a little bit to the north than todays town. After
the end of the Austrian war with Ottomans in 1699, Indjija remained in the Ottoman part of Srem. After the battle at Petrovaradin and liberation of the Ottoman rule in 1717 it became a feudal
domain of count Marko Pejacevic. After the immigration of Serbs in 1746. begins the period of todays Indjija. During 19th centry the most of the newcomming citizens were Germans and Hungarians.
