Developed by a special education teacher, the Coinulator is a lightweight hand-held, coin-counting calculator that uses coin buttons and a dollar bill button instead of standard numbers. It can be
used to count money (up to $99.99), to teach the value of different coins, and to determine how much money is needed to make a purchase. The easy-to-read LCD screen clearly displays the status of
the counting while unique sounds and an animated voice send immediate auditory feedback to the user, who benefits significantly through visual, auditory, and tactile stimulation.
How It Works
A switch changes the math activity from addition to subtraction. Students can add varying denominations of coins using the addition mode and solve simple subtraction problems using the subtraction
mode.
How It Motivates
Two fun games help teach money values as players match random money amounts shown on the LCD screen.
Features
Oops Button allows the user to undo the last entry when an error is made
Mute Button turns the sound off and on
Off Button turns unit off automatically after 10 minutes of inactivity
Penny, Nickel, Dime, Quarter, and Dollar Buttons display their values when pressed, which are then added to or subtracted from the amount on the screen
Dual Display Button changes LCD display from decimal ($0.05) to alpha-numeric format (0 dollars and 05 cents) and back
Game Button changes from the add and subtract mode to one of two money counting games
The Coinulator can be used in any classroom during instruction, independent work, or in classroom centers. The unit comes complete with easy-to-use operating instructions, game instructions,
suggested activities, and 3 AA batteries.
