LodeStoneTM has been in product development about 3 years. Class C fly ash has many of the same chemical ingredients as portland cement, but in different proportions. By building on those similarities, and allowing for the differences, we've refined a mix design that achieves a very strong stone at a very modest cost.
Reliable
In the LodeStoneTM mix design, a recycled material is used as the principal binder. Class C fly ash, a coal combustion by-product, is substituted for most of the portland cement typically used in concrete. The production of portland cement accounts for a large amount of the carbon emissions into the atmosphere, while most fly ash is currently thrown away. So, the LodeStoneTM mix design mix design makes greater use of coal that has already been burned, diverts a useful material out of the landfill, and lowers CO2 emissions through reduced demand for portland cement. For projects abiding by the LEEDTM rating system, LodeStoneTM contributes to credits for Recycled Content.
Reduced Environmental Burden:
LodeStoneTM has a pleasing resemblance to natural stone. The chiseled face veneer blocks are convincing, projecting out irregularly from a common mortar plane, and providing deep shadows that change as the light shifts throughout the day. Smooth face veneer blocks provide the stately appearance of cut stone. Accompanying trim shapes are smooth face, and come in standard 3'-11 5/8" lengths. Four colors are currently available - light buff, dark buff, castle gray, and rose.
