The Eight-Speed Transmission Electric Bicycle.

This is the electric bicycle that uses an 8-speed transmission todownshift into a lower gear for climbing hills, upshifts for rapidacceleration up to 20 mph on flats, or allows you to pedal normallybecause the motor can be disengaged at your command. Powered by a750-watt electric motor housed in the horizontal chain and motorassembly that provides 1 hp, the 8-speed automatic transmission iscapable of four modes of operation, all controlled by a thumb toggle onthe handlebars: a setting for rapid acceleration, a low gear settingfor inclines (but slower acceleration), and a setting for manual gearshifting that disengages the motor to preserve battery life.Construction begins with a 12' straight piece of 3/8-gauge, aircraftaluminum 6061 alloy that is roll-formed and annealed for uniform wall thicknessinto a complete 6' diameter circular tube with a 4" interior diameter(the Lithium-Ion batteries reside within the tube from the front forkto the seat), which is then bisected to make a 6' long arc for thebicycles frame. The sturdy frame supports riders up to 300 lbs. and thetop of the arc provides a 26" standover height, allowing you to placeboth feet on the ground. The padded, gel-filled ergonomic seat providescomfortable, relaxed riding. It attaches to the frame via a gas strutassembly that raises and lowers like a pneumatic office chair,accommodating riders between 5-7' tall in a semi-recumbent position forideal pedaling or powered coasting. A dynamo in the front wheel's hub provides power for the LCD which includes an odometer,clock, chronograph, and speedometer and is backlit from electricitygenerated by the dynamo during darker periods. The bicycle has a rangeof up to 30 miles at 20 mph before requiring a five-hour re-charge fromits AC adapter. Precisely tuned disc brakes provide sure stops, and thewheels are made of dual-walled aluminum alloy and aluminum spokes; the26" semi-slick tires are ideal for roads or paved trails and use Prestavalves. The bicycle is wet-painted in Rossa Corsa red using the samePPG color specification as high performance sports cars and treatedwith a clear coat finish for a luster that will last. With centerstand.
