New J/95 - More Sailing Freedom with Less Draft
J Boats announced today the introduction of the J/95, a new 31 foot luxury performance dayboat with as little as 3 foot draft. First presentation is planned for the Miami Boatshow in February 2009.
While designed to be a great sailing and seaworthy boat in any depth of water, the initial target is the untapped other half of the market the growing number of waterfront homeowners in thin water
areas, who would sail on home waters, if they had the right sailboat.
The J/95 sports a sleek hull with long waterline and high form stability, combined with a carbon fiber mast and low VCG (vertical center of gravity) lead keel with fully retractable, pivoting
centerboard. The result is an exceptionally fast and stable boat capable of performing on all points of sail in both board-up (3 draft) and board-down
(5.5 draft) configurations.
J/95 is further differentiated in the mid-size luxury dayboat market with a long T-shaped cockpit, wheel steering, removable transom locker, and a retractable bow sprit in a hidden housing for
downwind fun with masthead asymmetric spinnaker. Below, there are two berths for the occasional overnight adventure, an enclosed marine head, and a 15 hp diesel auxiliary saildrive to get you home
if the wind dies. This is a boat weve wanted to do for a long time, commented designer Rod Johnstone. Weve had a lot of success with our designs outperforming deeper draft competitors, so we knew
there was an opportunity to create something special in the 30 foot size range that could both sail and be moored in the many shallow areas of bays, lakes and estuaries around the world.
