We recommend zero offset hubs for disc
brakes. That way youll keep cool.
BPW offers wheel hubs for wheels with or
without offset, for drum or disc brakes, for single
or twin tyres. Normally, wheels with 0 mm
(ET 0) or 120 mm (ET 120) offset values are
used on trailers and semi-trailers. BPW axle
versions for wheels with zero offset can be
equipped with either drum or disc brakes.
Axles for wheels with
120 mm offset can only be fitted with disc
brakes. Disc brakes with zero offset offer better
heat dissipation.
120 offset Features and benefits Zero offset Features and benefits
Low temperature level: Optimum heat dissipation,
no heat build-up, less pad wear, longer
service life for bearings, grease and seals
Low system weight due to direct force
application and lighter wheels
The pads on the Disc Brake Light (SB 3745 T)
with 22.5 inch tyres can be changed without
removing the wheel
Available for use with both disc and drum
brakes
Greater design freedom (e.g. due to larger
spring centres)
Brake disc is protected in the rim
Function
A wheel is made up of a wheel nave , rim and the tyre. The offset is the distance from the middle of the rim to
the wheel mounting face . If the wheel mounting face and the middle of the rim are in alignment, this is referred
to as a zero offset: The brake is at the edge of the rim,
in the air flow. The air current acts directly on the disc
brake, providing optimum cooling. This means that pad
wear is reduced to a minimum. Result: Low bearing
temperature, longer service life. In conjunction with the
zero offset, the temperature of BPW disc brakes has
been reduced to a value comparable with that of drum
brakes.
