The WickedFlow MAX Racing Series mufflers are designed to produce minimum backpressure and maximize fuel economy and performance. Our mufflers utilize a straight through
perforated tube design that is very effective at eliminating unwanted frequencies and noise without restricting performance. The WickedFlow MAX series tends to produce a deep mellow tone at
idle, and a loud deep rumble under throttle, without sounding raspy or hollow. Perfect for performance enthusiasts, or for those who just want a little extra performance of gas mileage
without breaking the bank. We offer these mufflers in several casing sizes for varying sound requirements. As the size of the muffler increases, the sound level decreases, making
smaller mufflers ideal where more sound is wanted, and large mufflers suitable for vehicle where excessive resonance and noise are unwanted. 13" mufflers work well when more sound is desired
and on smaller vehicles, such as cars, light pickups, and half-ton pickups. 18" mufflers are suitable for larger vehicles, such as luxury cars, full-sized trucks, and SUVs, or where a quieter
muffler is desired. 22" mufflers are ideal for SUVs, vans, and heavy duty vehicles as well as diesel trucks.
How does a straight-through muffler work?
The muffler has a tube that passes through the interior of the muffler chamber, this tube is perforated to allow sound to be absorbed by some type of sound-absorbing material,
which is packed inside the case. This tends to create a deep tone, which is fairly quiet at idle, but gets progressively louder as more throttle is applied and as engine revs increase.
A steel mesh is often used to help prevent the packing material from being "blown out".
How are most straight-though mufflers constructed?
Most straight-through mufflers on the market today are built as cheaply as possible. In an effort to reduce manufacturing costs, low quality steel is used, which often
tends to be brittle and weak. Those mufflers tend to crack and split in high stress areas, such as the ends of the casing and around the neck. While many products may have a steel mesh
wrapped around the inner tube, they often use low quality sound absorbing materials that tend to deteriorate when exposed to standard exhaust heat. This packing is often something other than
fiberglass and if fiberglass is used, it is often of a low quality variety. Some shops and installers will quote this deterioration as a feature by saying the muffler will get louder as it
ages. This is just a fancy way of saying that the muffler is breaking down inside and that it is wearing out. Non-fiberglass packing used in many products, including the leading
competitor can trap water inside the casing, causing it to rust from the inside out, even if the muffler casing is made from stainless steel. Often the inner tubes are press bent, which means
that exhaust flow is restricted as it passes through these bends.
How is WickedFlow MAX different from other mufflers on the market?
WickedFlow represents quality and we do not cut corners in our construction. We use the highest quality stainless steel, which is up to 50% more ductile than the leading
competitor. We have stamped the end caps in such a way as to increase their strength and minimize stress points. This prevents heat and stress related failures of the casing and neck,
common to other mufflers. Our muffler has the stainless steel mesh retaining layer, which prevents packing blow out, and we use high temp rated, premium quality fiberglass which can withstand
up to 4x times the heat versus the leading competitor. Our muffler is engineered to withstand the extreme heat and stress of professional racing. In addition, our muffler features
mandrel formed inner tubes that insure no flow restrictions occur. Our casing is TIG welded for maximum strength and durability. Because our packing is engineered from higher quality
materials then other brands, our muffler does not get louder or change it's tone over time, but instead will sound the same a year from now, 5 years from now and 10 years from now.
