 Coloured lungi is called Munda in central Karnataka. Plain white double folded cloth similar to lungi is called a panche. Panche as opposed to lungi is worn during formal ceremonies. These are also used in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

 In Kerala the lungi, locally known as Kaili or Kalli Mundu, is worn by both men and women. It is considered a casual dress or working dress of physical labourers.

In Tamil Nadu, only the men wear this garment, and the usage is similar to Kerala's. It is also known as Kaili or Saaram/Charam in South Tamilnadu.

The lungi is a garment worn around the waist in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and yanmar (formerly Burma). While its origin is found in South Indian culture, it is orn by diverse communities across Southern Asia. It is normally woven from cottonin a variety of designs and colors, though the most popular styles are either olid-colored or plaid.Lungis also comes in two types: Open Lungi, which is basically  piece of cloth wrapped around, and Closed or Stitched Lungi, which is stitched to form a sort of a 'tube'.  

The cost of the Lungi varies with the cotton fabrics used. People make Lungies with pure silk fabrics also.

This is a piece of cloth, 2 to 2.5 meters long with a width of 1 to 1.25 meters, and wrapped on the waist. Some times, both ends are stiched together and is worn like a 'pyjama' also.

The Lungi is the most  common housewear used by men and in some parts of India by women folks too. Normally these are made of cotton fabrics, 60s,80s,100s counts yarn.

"Madras Lungies" are normally made of cotton, 60x60, 80x80, 100x100, and worn generally by men, and in some places women also
