EL,or electro luminescent signage, is essentially a flat light bulbsandwich consisting of layers of conductive and non-conductive plasticand a layer of phosphor. The phosphor is laminated between twoconductive layers and, as a voltage is applied between the twoconductive layers, or electrodes, the phosphor emits light energy. Whena high-quality, high-resolution image is printed over the light, itbehaves like a backlit sign. The illuminated phosphor does not generateheat the way conventional light sources do so EL runs cool. You canencapsulate or enclose the panels without fear of them overheating ormelting.
