This plus size dress from Bayo Imports International Teen Clothing and Women's Clothing Collection is made from a unique fabric.The fitted/semi-fitted dress is made from hand-woven African fabric.
This traditional type of African fabric is called Aso-oke (hand woven)by the Yoruba weavers who wove it. This type of African cloth fabric was woven in West Africa before Europeans arrived there.
The decorative holes and strings are typical of this "old style" African fabric. The cloth was woven in strips and then the strips were sewn together. Each strip took 2 1/2 to 3 hours to weave.
After that the pieces for the dress were cut out. Then the dress was sewn. Aso-oke cloth comes from a tradition similar to that of kente cloth.
Traditionally, women's clothing made from this type of African cloth was worn for weddings and other important occassion.
The plus size dress is made of heavy weight cotton and is white, taupe, and purplish in color. The dress has a back zipper.
In Africa this type of fabric is handwashed in cold water and then beaten smooth with sticks. Dry cleaning is easier; we recommend that.
