1960s James Galanos Black Wool Dress and Jacket James Galanos' designs exhibit the meticulous attention to detail usually seen only on 'couture' pieces. Like couture, Galanos' clothing is perfectly tailored and perfectly constructed. As Galanos himself once said about his clothing "They're for women of wealth who are fussy about quality and are willing to pay for it." A sleeveless slightly A-line jumper dress in a tightly woven black wool, the dress has a squared, cut in shoulder and a round neckline. Princess seamed, and as can be seen in the photos below, the zipper closure is placed in the seam that runs down just behind the left arm hole. There are hook and eye closures beneath a tab at the top of the left shoulder for easy entry over the head, and hidden inseam pockets sit at the hip. A separate leather backed wool belt floats at the waist. The angular cut of the bodice is emphasized with top stitching - like we said, every detail is well thought out and perfectly placed. The front of the hip length jacket is designed in a black and white printed silk crepe de chine fabric, with three ivory buttons running down the front. The sleeve has an inverted pleat in the outer seam running the length of the sleeve, and a deeply turned back cuff. Both pieces are lined in black silk crepe de chine. The bust of the dress measures up to 39", length 51". The jacket bust is 40", waist 37", hip 40", shoulder 15.5", sleeve cuffed is 17" long, uncuffed 22 Also bearing a Montaldos label, both pieces are in excellent condition. $545
