From small beginnings in a rented room of 25 square metres, and a stock of only R 1500.00, PROTECTO-WEAR went about the business of promoting its products to industry. The first 6 years showed a
gradual but steady growth and many new stock lines, essential to the well-being of workers in industry, were added to the range of products. Distributorships were acquired for world renowned brand
names such as 3M ( respiratory ), Peltor ( hearing ) and Uvex ( eye protection ) to name just a few. A fire extinguisher division, opened in 1986, was sold in 1989 and this step provided the
capital to allow the company to expand and become more focused on the safety division.
PROTECTO-WEAR PMB CC was started in June 1980 as the only specialist supplier of safety equipment and protective clothing in Pietermaritzburg. Having spent 5 years working for the National Occupational Safety Association ( NOSA ), as Regional Safety Advisor, Keith Hobday realised that a need existed for a specialised company in the Natal Midlands.
