| MOT is obligatory throughout Europe. The Dutch inspection obligation is described in the Motorway Regulations 1994 and in all derived regulations. During the MOT the car is tested on its safety and environmental requirements. For instance the brakes must work well and the car mustnt emit too many polluting residues. |
| The MOT frequency for privately owned cars and light vans on petrol will decrease. These cars must have their first MOT done when theyre four years old and afterwards every two years and after eight years on a yearly basis.
