The styling isnt the only updated changes on the new bike. The rear subframe is detachable and the offset has been reduced, but to compensate for this the steering head has been moved forward to maintain the original wheelbase and through this ensure overall stability. This extra stability is very necessary because of the ZX-9s phenomenal engine performance. The 899cc liquid cooled, DOHC, 16-valve, four cylinder engine weighs 1kg less than the old model and the intake ports have been re-shaped and a revised intake cam timing to improve mid-range power. All this means that the ZX-9R now has a top speed of 285 km/h and tops out at 142bhp.
Who is up for some green? The ZX-9R was originally launched in 1994 and after that every year its update was more mind-blowing than the last, but the 2001 model is undeniably breathtaking. The restyled fairing is drop-dead gorgeous and despite the very competitive 900cc class the Ninja must be a true leader.
