First introduced in the 2002 model year, the Jeep Liberty is a compact SUV from Daimler Chrysler. In 2005, a 2.8 L VM Motori Turbodiesel engine became available in the CRD model. Although diesel engines are not familiar in the American market, Jeep reported that they sold 10,000 Liberty CRD models in the first calendar year of sales. This model was only available in 2005 and 2006. Although the CRD was extremely popular with buying public, it was discontinued only because of tightening U.S. emissions standards.
