1939 PACKARD TWELVE
1939 marks the last year for the Packard Twelve and this beautiful five-passenger convertible sedan, Model 1253, may be the most attractive, practical and enjoyable of the 446 built before Packard
Twelve production ended for all time. It may also be one of the most spacious and elegant open automobiles ever built for just five passengers. Finished in metallic Silver-Grey which shows the
lines of the body to advantage, the interior is sumptuously upholstered in Red leather and enclosed by a Black cloth top with blind rear quarters for the occupants' privacy. The interior
appointments are gorgeous, including the beautifully finished walnut burl dashboard, instrument panel with five uniformly sized round gauge faces, a rollup divider window that functions both as a
privacy screen for the rear compartment and to protect the rear seat passengers from wind buffeting when the top is lowered, and a rear seat lap robe rope. The wheels are fitted with hubcaps, trim
rings and wide whitewall tires. There are dual enclosed sidemounts with mirrors, fog lights, a heater and an unusual rack for a luggage trunk which when lowered has it own demi-bumper to protect
the trunk. It is a very nice older restoration that has been toured. It can still be shown with pride and confidence that could gain many points with a careful, comprehensive detailing. It has one
very unusual feature, a steering column mounted gearshift which was optional in 1939, making it one of very few multi-cylinder classics built with "three on the tree."
