1954 MORGAN PLUS 4
Morgans evolved slowly, retaining distinctive, classic Morgan features like the sliding pillar independent front suspension shared with the first Morgan 3-wheelers and the marque's classic body
construction of lightweight panels over ash framing. But evolve they did, and this 1954 "interim cowl" Morgan is Exhibit A for the process. "Cowl" in this Morgan's case doesn't mean the area under
the windshield but rather the grille and radiator treatment. Up until this car and its counterparts (a total of only nineteen) Morgans had flat chrome radiator grilles. This interim radiator
cowling, and the related integration of the headlights into the front fenders, were steps to the fully cowled radiators of all subsequent series of Morgans. Immediately identifiable by the chromed
upper grille area, this is one of the most rare of all Morgans. It also is powered by a Triumph TR2 engine, setting another precedent which would be followed by subsequent Morgans. Finished in
bright yellow with black vinyl upholstery and a black vinyl tonneau cover, it has steel wheels, blackwall tires, windwings and a folding windshield. The original top and tonneau come with it but
should be replaced. The paint, new interior and new tonneau are in good condition and the car overall is well maintained and very attractive. Morgans are very popular with collectors but only
rarely are low production variants of the standard models seen or available for acquisition. The last examples of classic British sports car design and construction, this "interim cowl" Morgan Plus
4 will be the center of attention at any gathering of the marque or of British sports cars while providing its owner and privileged passengers with a classic driving experience on the way. A twisty
road on a beautiful spring day in a Morgan is an experience that will never be forgotten
