| History : | It was announced in 1981 by Rolls-Royce that the production of two door fixed head coupes in both Rolls-Royce and Bentley form would cease, with the decision taken to concentrate solely on convertible motor cars. The designation Continental had been used for some of Bentleys finest creations in the 1950s and 1960s and in 1984 the term was resurrected in the form of the Bentley Continental convertible. The stylish coachwork by Mulliner/Park Ward was designed by legendary stylist John Blatchley and was assembled and finished in London. Constant improvements were made during the eleven year production run and in 1993 the Series IV models were produced, which proved to be the final chapter in this ever popular models development. Production was switched at this time to Crewe with the final models fitted with a glass back window, which was a major upgrade from the previous plastic rear window. The hood mechanism was also improved and no longer required manual latches, instead sealing it automatically. This particular car is finished in British Racing green with a matching green hood and spruce leather interior. It was originally ordered in 1993 by The Sultan of Brunei but ultimately he did not take delivery and it was instead purchased new by a British gentleman. It has had just one further owner in its sixteen year history. It has travelled just a little over 11,000 miles from new and has been serviced by various Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialists throughout its life. It is complete with all of its tools, manuals and even a Bentley umbrella secured in the boot compartment. It is in excellent condition both cosmetically and mechanically and will be serviced in our workshops prior to collection/delivery as per our normal policy. The Series IV motor cars were produced in very limited numbers and are rarely available. A car in comparable condition with such low mileage would be exceptionally difficult to find. In our opinion this motor car is a rare opportunity to acquire an excellent example of a model that is sure to become a collectors piece in the future. |
