Full sized airbags for front occupants and Porsche Side Impact Protection System (POSIP) comes standard in the Boxster S. More notable features include Porsche's Stability Management. It monitors elements such as speed, direction and yaw of the car and uses the Automatic Brake Differential and the Anti-Slip Regulation functions to maintain optimal traction and stability. All these wouldn't work without the immense stopping power of Porsche's own 4-piston, monobloc, aluminium fixed brake callipers at the front and rear. The car also comes with a slew of Anti-Theft features including an immobilizer, central locking system, remote control and an alarm system.
Safety
Porsche has decided to scrape their 3.2 litre for a new 3.4 litre, six-cylinder unit which manages to squeeze out 295bhp at 6250rpm. Both engines are fitted with Porsche's VarioCam Plus variable intake-valve timing and lift system, hardware usually saved for their top tier 911's. VarioCam broadens the torque curve, increases fuel economy and reduces emissions. The Boxster S comes in two transmission modes, namely the 6-speed manual and Porsche's very own 5-speed automatic tiptronic system.
Under the hood
The layout of the buttons on the dashboard are kept very basic and tidy. The speedometer, rev counter, oil temperature, fuel level with odometer and digital clock clusters are housed just behind the steering wheel and in good view of the driver. Stitchings that adorn the leather seats, side panels and the steering wheel are highlighted in a contrasting colour to exude a refined and sporty feel. The two seats in the car are comfortable, providing ample lateral support and also offering a wide range of adjustments to the seating position. The seats do their job well holding you in place firmly when taking tight corners, should circumstances so happen to put you in that position.
Interior
The overall shape has been kept mostly similar from the last batch of Boxsters, with Porsche going circular with the front lamps and smaller tail lamps. Bumpers have been less tampered with besides the addition of a front mid air intake and circular twin exhausts housed in the middle of the rear bumper. Each curve has been sculpted carefully and has a direct effect on the cars aerodynamics but nothing too pronounced. The Boxster S could look more aggressive by wearing the 911's rims, but that along with other options comes under the extensive options list.
