Cytochrome c Cytochrome c is a hemoprotein which found in animal cells in the mitochondrial protein-lipid complex. It can be readily converted to corresponding hemochromogen by replacement of the protein with an organic base, usually pyridine. Because of their ready fluctuation within the cell between the ferrous and ferric states, they are all efficient biological electron-transporters and play a vital role in cellular oxidations in both plants and animals. It is generally regarded as universal catalysts of respiration, forming the essential electron-bridge between the respirable substrates and oxygen. Linzyme Cytochrome c is extracted from porcine heart, and further purified by chromatographic method to remove contaminating proteases.
