Other companies have used Bluefish for device registration and configuration, user manuals and documentation, delivering bonus software files and broad content distribution. There are many possible
uses for the Bluefish Platform including:
ASCO Portal (Vertical Market Portal)
The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) wanted to further leverage their extensive web based content by deploying it to wireless devices. The ASCO portal incorporates various XML news
feeds, a gallery of medical images and a free subscription system that allows a user to select content relevant to their particular areas of interest.
Central (Phone Interaction)
Developed by Bluefish, Central truly highlights the power of BFViewer, the on-device client. Built entirely using the Bluefish SDK and BFViewer, Central interacts with the core phone device
components to implement such features as: do not disturb, a blanket call to send calls to voicemail, an SMS kill pill, which wipes the device clean if ever lost or stolen, and much more.
Tradeshows (Location-based Services)
Bluefishs business began as a tradeshow service and this component is still heavily used today. Associations create mini-portals for their event and distribute the application before and after the
show. Nearly 50 associations have contracted Bluefish throughout the years, utilizing database searching, add to calendar features, wireless updates and vector mapping. Distribution and updates are
performed wirelessly, via SMS or from infrared beaming stations.
GetSportz (Content Delivery)
GetSportz is a full service sports application with content provided by Stats, LLC. Users can select the sports that interest them and only those sports are updated on the device. GetSportz takes
advantage of Bluefishs auto-update functionality. Alternately, users can manually update. Updates are compartmentalized - users can perform a complete update from the home page, or specific sports
updates by updating from the sports page itself. Live baseball is an added feature in GetSportz, which takes advantage of an always-on connection.
MyPalm Software Catalog (M-commerce)
An extension of Bluefishs Addit application, MyPalm software is integrated with Palms web services. Users can research and view screenshots of applications and then download, trial or purchase
applications directly from their device. All transactions are performed in real time and the unlocked software is downloaded to the device. Digital Rights Management (DRM) has been built into
MyPalm software so that purchased applications are locked to the users phone number. An SMS message can also be sent from Palms website to initiate a download of free software via MyPalm Software.
The Bluefish Platform is rich and has a wide range of capabilities. Our portal software has been available since 2001 and is widely used today in a cross section of vertical markets and general public distribution. Some examples include:
