Why is Traceability Functionality important?Traceability is a conjunction of the words Trace (meaning "to follow"), and Ability (potential). There have been problems in the recent past regarding food contamination, and this makes the ability to trace the production location and history so important in the task of safeguarding quality control and maintaining safety standards.
Conventional Traceability systems usually involve a huge amount of development and administrative costs, as well as time and effort, to develop. Which is why, despite it being part of their responsibility, most companies would prefer not to introduce Traceability to their system, not seeing the benefits to their productivity.
However, problems of unintentional contamination of raw materials and the mixing-in of defective materials, being pressed for time regarding the recall of defective products, combined with a slow company response might result in the loss of a company's hard-earned image. In worst cases, some companies were even forced into bankruptcy.
Although it takes time to solve problems such as the mixing-in of defective raw materials, being able to trace the defective parts in production processes even sorting and collecting the defective partsan be done in the least amount of time with the use of a Traceability system. Furthermore, if the company uses a Traceability system, the company's image will vastly improve, and will gain more of its client's trust.
What can a Traceability System can do?Various information such as location of materials, part lot, equipment used, inspection results, worker names, etc, is easily retrievable and manageable.
Aside from its original purpose of information management, it has been proven to have major effect in the improvement of quality, reduction of material defect and faster feedback to management. Furthermore, when timely and needed information is readily available from the company, it easily gains a customer's trust and furthermore improves its image.
