SysCom from Unified Data is a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use graphical-based software tool that is designed to control the data communications channel with the GSM Server Terminal in the roadside SOS emergency unit. The software application is interfaced to a GSM Server Terminal that facilitates the receiving and sending of data via the short message service (SMS). Information from the roadside SOS unit such as alarm conditions, power levels, and voice calls are received and logged by the SysCom application. The Man Machine Interface (MMI) displays a grid monitoring the alarm conditions of all the roadside SOS units linked to the system. The software is designed with Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 using the powerful Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC). The graphical-based application is liked to a Microsoft Access database for recording all data messages received and transmitted. All data calls together with the date and time, duration, cost, GSM Terminal Identification, and operator Identification are logged in the database. SysCom allows for the drawing and printing of three types of reports, viz. data transmitted, data received and alarm conditions. Reports and graphs can be viewed by management on remote PCs to review the operation of the system. The administrative graphical utility manages the users and level of access. System configuration is performed through simple drop down menu windows.
