Types of anodes are selected according to the operation conditions of the ship and the geometry of the hull where anodes are to be installed. The anode passes a d.c. current through the surrounding sea water to the underwater hull and makes the entire hull structure cathodic or more negative, thus protecting it from corrosion. Reference Electrodeshigh purity zinc block mounted in a resin holder, which because of its robust construction and stable electrochemical characteristics is an ideal material for reference purpose. The reference electrode continuously measures the hull potential and feeds it back to the controller section of power unit which adjusts the current output accordingly. Automatic Controller Power UnitThe transformer/rectifier controller power unit which is self contained in a cabinet includes solid state circurity with state-of-the-art printed circuit board that incorporates all control and monitoring functions. Two modes of output control, Automatic and Manual are available for operation. The unit transforms and rectifies the a.c. supply from ship's electrical system into a controlled d.c. output which is distibuted to the anodes to provide the optimum level of protection. Propeller Shaft Grounding AssemblyThis assembly ensures good electrical contact between the propeller and propeller shaft and the ship's hull by fitting a silver alloyed slipring to the hull structure with silver graphite brushes mounted in an adjustsable brush holder. The shaft potential monitor indicates the grounding condition of propeller shaft/hull and the dirt and grease build-up of shaft grounding assembly. Rudder Stock Bonding CableA flexible bonding cable is secured between the rudder stock head and deck head in the steering gear room, to give an adequate electrical continuity between the rudder and the hull, so, to ensure cathodic protection for rudder.
