AccuScan is an add-on module for NISTPack that enables the usage of consumer-grade flatbed scanners to scan paper tenprint cards. The FBI requires compliance with its EFTS (Electronic Fingerprint Transmission Specification) IQS (Image Quality Specification) for scanners. All digital tenprint fingerprint cards must be acquired with scanners that meet these image quality specifications. AccuScan provides this compliance. AccuScanMB For high-volume automated batch processing AccuScanMB is an enhanced version of AccuScan designed to enable multi-batch fingerprint card scanning though a parallel configuration of up to six off-the-shelf, automatic document feeder (ADF) flatbed scanners. With multiple scanners in operation, each scanner can process up to 160 500-ppi cards per hour or 48 1000-ppi cards per hour. So with six scanners running in parallel, nearly 1000 500-ppi cards can be processed every hour. Like AccuScan, AccuScan MB provides Appendix F-certified scanning at 500 and 1000 ppi, and maintains AccuScans configuration, cropping functionality and API. Key BenefitsA COTS solution Eliminates all work associated with FBI certification of flat bed scanners Supports easily sourceable commercial and consumer grade scanners With NISTPack by Aware, provides a full FBI and NIST compliant development toolkit from inked paper cards to electronic submission and response management Greatly shortens development time of card scanning solutions Easy to maintain and customize for each agency NISTPack with AccuScan provides a fully programmable and configurable software tool that enables systems integrators to design and deploy a ten-print card scanning system that is a fully FBI compliant solution. The combined software tools provide the following:FBI IQS Appendix F compliance for a scannerFBI certified WSQ compression and decompressionFingerprint image quality measurement and Q/ARead, write, view, edit FBI EFTS civil applicant and criminal ten-print transactionsValidate and error check the EFTS submission files (electronic ten-print cards) and the EFTS electronic responses (ident, no ident or error) from the FBI This screen capture below shows the user interface of the Aware reference design that includes NISTPack, AccuScan and SequenceCheck. The individual fingerprint images have been cut out of the larger scanned image, compressed with WSQ and inserted into the EFTS file as separate Type-4 records. An image quality score is recorded for each image. SequenceCheck matches each rolled print to its mate in the slap. The green button under each image indicates a match, red indicates a no-match, and yellow indicates a dont know. The dialog box in the lower left hand corner of the user interface shows the match scores of each roll image to its impression mate (slaps or thumbs). The source code to this program is provided as part of the Aware development kit. The source code to this program is provided as part of the Aware development kit.Example of a user interface that combines the Aware AccuScan, NISTPack and SequenceCheck libraries. Each inked/scanned finger is given a quality score, and a slap-to-roll match is performed. Note that the red bar under the two center images signify a mismatch. The next screen capture shows the same user interface with the Demographic Data entry box for a FBI civil applicant transaction called NFUF (non-federal applicant, user fee). The NISTPack engine underneath this application provides data entry and validation for all FBI criminal and civil ten-print transactions.Data entry boxes are shown for the mandatory NFUF fields. Those that require predefined codes (PRIORITY, POB, DOB, SEX, RAC, HAIR, EYE) are provided as a pull down menu of options. On the fly flagging (warning) of invalid fields is provided with error messages and text coloration that differentiates the invalid data from the valid data so that it can be changed before electronic submission is made. The source code to this program provided as part of the Aware development kit.Card Template ToolThe scanning of inked cards presents a number of technical challenges. Specifically, all agencies - both state and federal - maintain and utilize a unique set of fingerprint cards and forms. Some states have five or six different cards. And each card is used for a different purpose, depending upon the reason for obtaining the inked prints.AccuScan manages this problem through an XML based configuration file that holds the layout details of the original paper document. This file describes the size and location of each fingerprint or palm-print image. The AccuScan SDK includes a utility (executable and source) that enables the easy creation of these XML configuration files. The process includes scanning a blank or populated original card, loading it into the Template Tool, and then tracing the fingerprint image boxes. After all image regions of interest have been selected, the file is saved and can be used by an AccuScan
