Ethernet/Synchronous Serial Router provides: high-speed connectivity for branch and small offices; connects small, remote sites with Ethernet LANs to synchronous WANs at speeds up to 2.048 Mbps or to asynchronous WANs at speeds up to 115.2 kbps; one Ethernet 10BaseT port (RJ-45); one console port (RJ-45); one serial port (DB-60); one slot for an optional Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) Flash memory card; support for the following WAN encapsulations: Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP), High-Level Data Link Control (HDLC), Link Access Procedure Balanced (LAPB), Frame Relay, Switched Multimegabit Data Service (SMDS), and X.25; router management through the console port or over the network using Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) or Telnet; and a "5-in-1" DB-60 connector; separate cables - available to support X.21, V.35, EIA/TIA-232, EIA/TIA-449, and EIA-530 physical interfaces. While the Cisco 1005 does not support LAN Extender functionality, the 1005 does support IP routing plus bridgingas well as significant ease-of-use functionalityin it's entry-level, IP software image; higher-functionality images also support IPX and/or AppleTalk routing.
