BarkGrey and plane sometimes with narrow fissures (Q.alba).  

PANGEOregon white oak British Columbia, Oregon and central California. White oak southern Ontario, southern Quebec and the eastern half of USA. Swamp white oak southern most States of Canada, from southern Maine through the central States to the great plains. Overcup oak Atlantic coastal, States, westward to Texas through southern Illinois and Indiana. White oak (Q.alba) is the most important.
