the storyWe can't say enough about this cork flooring. It's as easy to install as any laminate, but instead of walking on plastic you get to spring along on a natural surface that's warm to the
touch, quiet and cushy. We sell two brands. Our Vida CorkTM brand comes with a UV cure hardwax oil finish. It's durable and easy to spot-repair or refresh. We also sell cork planks from
Expanko, Inc. These are available prefinished with a matte polyurethane or unfinished. We have Vida CorkTM planks in stock for immediate shipping. Both brands work well in most rooms however
they should not be installed in damp or steamy rooms and are not ideal for high traffic areas.
If you liked our OSMO brand cork planks, you will love Vida CorkTM planks, imported and distributed in the US exclusively by Environmental Home Center. These planks have six beautiful patterns,
are available in different colors, are easy to install, have a formaldehyde-free core, have a repairable finish, and are in stock!
Vida cork planks are laminated flooring 7/16 inch thick with three layers: a thick bottom cushion of cork, a thicker middle layer of hard density fiberboard (HDF) and a top 'wear layer' of
compressed cork. The HDF layer is milled with a tongue and groove edge so that the interlocking edges click together and remain intact without any glue or nails. The finish is a UV cure hardwax
oil.
corkLike our cork tiles, these planks are made from bark of the cork oak tree, Quercus suber. Harvesting is the ultimate in sustainable production, having survived and thrived over many
generations in Portugal, Spain and nearby Mediterranean countries. Because the market for cork provides an incentive to keep forest cover on arid land, the industry helps keep 5 1/2 million
acres from turning to desert.
Harvesting schedules are set by law to ensure that trees have nine years to heal. Portugal, the largest producer of cork, even makes it a crime to cut down the trees. Producers strip the thick
bark in long, wide slabs. They stamp out wine corks first, then grind the scraps and press them back together to make flooring and bulletin boards.
