Woods used for Decking must be 'Air Dried', after all it's going to spend it's lifetime outside. 'Kiln Dried' woods are better off used inside for flooring. When choosing woods for decking purposes it is important to choose a wood which is fairly dense (more than 600m3). The denser the wood, the less maintenance it will need. Softer woods, such as Pine may be used but must be varnished to protect it. The harder woods such as Teak or Garapa only need to be oiled to preserve and protect them, therefore maintenance is less and a lot more cost effective. Also note, that the harder woods, need not to be maintained, just oil the wood a few times, then leave it to nature and the wood will 'Weather' and turn Grey in time without compromising the integrity of the wood.
