The concept of a massive tile as reactor topping is not restricted to secondary methane reformers, but is also applicable to other reactors with high temperatures and/or high horizontal velocities.

The most recent improvement is the massive SuperJumbo hex tile, which at 90 mm thick and 22 kg presents the ultimate in stability and in thermal protection of the catalyst underneath.

A ring of Christys unique circle brick around the perimeter prevents gas bypass around the outside edges of the tile array.

Made of low silica alumina refractory mix, the hexagonal tiles lock in to each other to provide very high lateral stability in the face of turbulent gas velocities. The extremely durable 99% alumina formula also provides superb erosion resistance.

Christys CUSTOM-CRAFTED hexagonal tiles are now used in over 50 ammonia plant secondary reformers. While being specified by KBR in their process, the tiles can be used in any design, including Uhde reactors with a central riser.
