Following a garden path to discover the hidden delights beyond can add enchanting charm to any garden. One of the most aesthetically pleasing (and practical) choices for a garden walkway is concrete pavers. Begin by deciding what pavers suit the design you have in mind. Depending on what you want, you can plot anything from a plain pattern to a very intricate design using the proper materials. Concrete pavers come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. Simple 4-, 6-, 8- or 12-inch square pavers can be used alone or mixed-and-matched for imaginative designs. Other shapes (such as octagonal pavers) lend themselves to more creativity.

One of the biggest advantages of choosing concrete pavers is that if a repair ever does become necessary, stained or broken pavers can be easily replaced without ugly patches by just removing and reinstating new pavers. This is not true of asphalt, concrete, or stamped concrete.

Clay Pavers
Clay pavers mainly come in shades of red and have a limited number of shapes available.

Concrete pavers are stronger than ordinary or stamped concrete which gives you the assurance that the pavement for your driveway, patio, or pool deck will look beautiful for a very long time. Pavers are easy to clean and require little maintenance.

When designing a stone patio with paving stones, varying their size and colors will give your patio a quilted, cohesive look. It's also very important to use paving stones specifically designed for patios. I use pavers that are generally fired longer and at a higher temperature making them more suitable for a variety of weather conditions and more durable to wear and tear.

STONE PATIOS
A stone patio gives you all the beauty of a manicured lawn without the maintenance. They add a somewhat formal touch to any outdoor living space and will long outlast a wooden deck. The life of a wooden deck can be in terms of 10's of years. They are also very high maintenance and require wood treatment every year. On the contrary, a paving stone patio can last a lifetime.

What are pavers made of?
Interlocking concrete pavers are composed of cement and fine and course aggregates. Color is often added. Pavers are made in factory controlled conditions that apply pressure and vibration. the result is a high strength concrete that can be molded into many shapes.

Why are pavers better than concrete or bricks?
The joints between pavers eliminate cracking normal to conventional asphalt and concrete pavements.

What are pavers?
