Too soft for some end uses weighing only about 2.76 lbs per board foot in the rough, kiln dried. Not durable in situations favoring decay, but available at reasonable cost and well-suited for many projects ordinarily associated with such woods as western pines.
The wood is light pinkish-brown with medium to high luster, generally straight-grained, easy to work, glues without difficulty and holds nails well. Accepts fine finishes readily, presenting a handsome, if plain, appearance.
Banak in the United States and Mexico it is used primarily in the production of mouldings, although it is an excellent utilty hardwood as well.
