Salwood (Shorea Robusta)

From more than 100 years salwood used to tie up railway tracks sleepers.Salwood tree grows up to 25ft high. It can bear the hardest conditions.In north-east india it is the most popular wood as its life is outstanding in some cases more than 100 years.North Indian used this wood to support their roofs as it saves time and money .They used salwood to make their window frames , door frames,doors and windows as it can bear any conditions.In villages they used it for ploughing their fields.Today this wood is been used for making platform of truck body.It is found in states of Uttar Pradesh and Uttranchal and Nepal border in Uttranchal and Uttar pradesh.It is quiet heavy and does not bend too much.Its colour is light golden from inside .It changes its colour when came in the contact of light.One of the major benefits of salwood is that its door frames and window frames can support walls in during Earth Quakes as other wood broke up in pieces during quakes but in case of salwood it will support the wall .
