The majority of varnishes and wood-stains are oil-based. By far the biggest problem with these products is that, once dry, they tend to become very hard and inflexible. Wood tends to swell in moist
conditions and shrink in dry situations. Because the expansion and contraction co-efficiency of wood is vastly different to that of a hard resin, therefore, flaking and cracking often occurs. Most
of these products are susceptible to UV denigration and tend to crack and curl, not unlike some enamels, when exposed to harsh sunlight.
The wood care range that we produce differs significantly in as much as it is water based. All woods absorb water. When using our products, the trick is to dilute the polymer with water for the
first coat. Unlike oil-based resins, the water-laced-polymer gets drawn into the wood. Thereafter, the second coat, applied undiluted, chemically bonds to the first, resulting in a high level of
penetration and saturation.
