Marine (IS 710/10/1976)Product DescriptionMarine Plywood is made from select hardwood veneer. Bonded at high pressure and temperature with phenol formaldehyde resin, it undergoes a preservative treatment making it resistant to heat, light, moisture, termites and marine organisms.Salient FeaturesBest phenol formaldehyde resin of Boiling Water Proof (BWP) type (conforming to IS/848/1974) makes the plywood highly resistant to wear and tear, weather proof and boiling water proof. Preservative treatment with acid copper-chrome composition under vacuum pressure impregnation process ensures complete penetration of chemical in every thread of the plywood sheet. Reconditioning its moisture content between 8% - 15%, generating resistance against heat, moisture and termites. Structurally strong, dimensionally stable and long-lasting the product can be repeatedly used under varying climatic conditions. Re-use value is directly related to the care taken in handling, use, stripping and storing.Standard Size (in cm)244 x 122 244 x 92 214 x 122 214 x 92 184 x 122 184 x 92 154 x 122 154 x 92 Standard Thickness (in mm)3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 16, 19 and 25Standard Weight (based on 0.675 density)Thickness Weight per sq. mtr 6 mm 3.85 kg 9 mm 6.50 kg 12 mm 8.45 kg 19 mm 12.30 kg 25 mm 16.30 kg Technical DataSpan to Load Ratio : Keeping in view the maximum possible deflection, the following spans against maximum loads are advised.Centre to centre distance of bearers When direction of face veneer is perpendicular to bearers When direction of face veneer is parallel to bearers . 9 mm kg/m2 12 mm kg/m2 9 mm kg/m2 12 mm kg/m2 60 165 360 110 160 45 320 630 195 390 40 540 840 320 540 30 1270 1930 760 1210 Bending Radii in Curvature : For use in curved structures the approximate minimum bending radii when dry:Thickness Across the grain of outer plies Parallel to the grain of outer plies 6 mm 90 cm 125 cm 9 mm 160 cm 215 cm 12 mm 255 cm 320 cm Tensile StrengthIn the direction parallel to the grain direction of face veneers : Over 420 kgs/cm2In the direction at right angles to the grain direction of face veneer : Over 250 kgs/cm2Sum of strength in both direction : Over 845 kgs/cm2Moisture content : 8% - 12% (preferable)Swelling in thickness : Less than 1% Specific gravity : 0.65 0.75Application AreasExtensively used in centering, shuttering and formwork of concrete columns, beams, slabs, etc. For building ships, motor boats, yachts, trawlers and other marine crafts.
