Cement board is a combination of cement and glass fibers formed into large sheets, which are typically used as a tile backing board. Cement board may be fixed to wood or steel studs to create a substrate base for vertical tiling or attached horizontally to plywood for tiled floors, kitchen worktops and back splashes. Cement board may also be used on the exterior of buildings as a base for exterior plaster or render (occasionally called stucco) as the finish material itself.
