The polarization imaging camera can animate or perform fixed quantity analysis of the polarization of light. Polarized light, though it cannot be perceived by the unassisted eye, is widely used in optical devices and displays. A short introduction to polarized light is given below. It is widely accepted that the most important of the senses is vision. There are three independent aspects of light: amplitude, wavelength, and the direction of vibration (see upper right diagram). The amplitude is the brightness, and the wavelength is the colour. These are familiar qualities. The remaining quality, the direction of vibration is the polarization. Details of the source of light and the reflecting surface can be ascertained from the polarization of light. It is widely believed that insects, such as bees, use polarized light to determine the position of the sun, identify flowers and their nests. The PI-100 polarization imaging camera, uses state of the art photonic crystal technology to record the brightness and polarization of light simultaneously.
