It's purely personal preference - the Powershot G9 is prefered by some over the new G10 for certain reasons, i.e. G10 lens rim noticable in viewfinder which some have found
to be distracting.. G10 is more bulky than more compact G9.. G10 optical zoom down to 5x optical from the G9's 6x optical zoom.. The G9's quality known to be outstanding for a 12.7MP CCD..
Finally was hoped the G10 would make jump to CMOS, but remains CCD.. it's all personal preference though..
