These are the heaviest small diesel generators available. There is nothing like them being built today, originally designed to run 40, 000 hours before a top end overhaul was necessary. These units weigh in at 2200 pounds and combine the 2-71 Detroit diesel engine with an extremely heavy duty all copper wound delco or emerson brushless alternator. The engines run at 1200 RPM-less than any other comparable generator built today and part of the reason they have such great longevity. We set out to find the best value for our customers who needed a generator capable of running continuously over a long time. After talking with many experts we determined that the 2-71 diesel engine was the best engine because of its simple design, extremely heavy duty construction, reliability, worldwide parts availability, and because they are easy and inexpensive to work on and rebuild. We found the ideal combination of generator and engine in these generator sets that were used to power refrigeration units on railroad cars. These generators sold new for over $14, 000! Even though these units are used they are our personal choice for a continuous use application above any new generator built today. With all the potentials for power failures from hurricanes, snow / ice storms, over-loaded power grids or terrorists, having a backup generator just makes sense.
