Stions focus on efficiency differentiates it from other emerging PV firms which are competing primarily to cut cell costs.  Customers make purchase decisions based on the total cost of an installed system and not just the cell or module, but because many system-level costs are area-dependent, reducing cell and module costs is insufficient unless efficiency improves.  In addition to delivering the reduced material and processing costs associated thin films, Stion would cut dollar-per-watt costs at the system level by generating the same power using a smaller product, thus making PV economically feasible to more customers.
