If the battery is fully charged, it will function even though there is no sun for 4/5 days. There is Sulfuric Acid in it. Though the sulfuric acid doesnt dry, the water level in it decreases, so distilled water must be put from time to time. At what interval (3 months/ 6 months/ 9 months) to put the water depends on what sort of place the battery is kept. The distilled water must be added so that the level of sulfuric acid doesnt go below the lower line of the battery. 

The battery used in the solar is different from the one used in the vehicles. The battery used in the Solar is called the Tubular, Deep Cycle Rechargeable Battery. These batteries can be discharged up to 80% if needed. Its life decreases if used more than that.
